Why am I sick?

Why am I hurting?

In 1895, Dr. Daniel David Palmer, the founder of chiropractic, made a startling discovery: the vertebrae (spinal bones) can misalign and pinch the spinal nerves that carry messages between the brain and the cells of the body. This nerve interference tends to lower the body's natural resistance to stress and disease and can produce a variety of symptoms, including pain, numbness, tingling, and abnormal functions in the body.

Which of my Health Zones are affected?

Your chiropractor can determine which Zones are involved in your case by feeling the Zone Points along the base of your skull. The tight or tender ligaments indicate which of the Health Zones are under stress and which vertebrae need to be adjusted. If a Zone Point is tight or tender, this indicates that the associated Health Zones is still in the process of healing - even thought the more severe symptoms may have diminished.

What are "subluxations"?

Subluxations (sub-lucks-a-shuns) are spinal misalignments that produce pain and "disease" by impinging the spinal nerves and interfering with the nerve impulses that travel between the Brain Centers and the tissues of the six major Health Zones or Systems. This nerve interference also produces tight and tender ligaments at the Zone Points along the base of the head.

How does chiropractic work?

Your chiropractor works to restore your Health Zones to normal by locating and adjusting your spinal misalignments, thus reducing nerve pressure, restoring nerve flow, and reestablishing normal function and natural resistance to disease. As the cause of your condition is corrected, this allows the living body to heal itself naturally - without drugs or surgery.

What causes spinal subluxations?

According to Dr. D.D. Palmer, there are three general causes: POISONS (including unhealthy food and drink), TRAUMA (including accidents, falls, sprains, and strains) and AUTOSUGGESTION (meaning "negative thinking" or "emotional stress"). These things may cause spinal subluxations and a wide variety of symptoms.

How long will it take?

Each visit, your chiropractor will check your Zone Points to determine your progress. It takes time to realign your spine and to reduce your nerve pressure, time to gently stretch the muscles, tendons, and ligaments back into position. As the Zone Points become less tender, you will usually notice that your Health Zones are beginning to heal.

Can chiropractic help me?

Chiropractic can usually help any condition or symptom produced by spinal subluxations and pinched nerves. Naturally, duration and severity are important factors. By adjusting the vertebrae back into proper alignment, chiropractic relieves nerve pressure so that the living body is free to heal itself.

Can chiropractic improve my health?

By eliminating spinal subluxations, chiropractic improves the health of your spine and nervous system. This restores your body's natural resistance to stress and disease. Many patients claim that they have more energy and less illness as a result of regular chiropractic care.
